Apple (iPhone 4S) US starts selling unlocked phones, here are the prices

Great news for everyone who's been patiently waiting for an unlocked iPhone 4S with no contract attached to it. From today the Apple US store will offer you spanking new, contract-free, factory unlocked iPhone 4S's.
Prices aren't that bad either, starting at $649 for the 16GB version. A 32GB iPhone 4S will cost $749, while the 64GB will sell for $849. Before you head up to the Apple store though check what Apple has to say about it.
The unlocked iPhone works only on supported GSM networks, such as AT&T in the U.S. When you travel internationally, you can also use a micro-SIM card from a local GSM carrier. The unlocked iPhone will not work with CDMA carriers such as Verizon Wireless or Sprint.
In related locksmith news, Sprint started SIM-locking all iPhone 4S handsets purchased from today, November 11 onwards. All devices bought and activated before today's date will remain unlocked, but how long will this last is still anyone's guess.

Apple continues to investigate remaining issues in iOS 5.0.1

It has just been a day since Apple released the iOS 5.0.1 update, which among other things, was chiefly aimed at solving the battery life bug in iOS 5 that Apple acknowledged last week.

However, even though a majority of the users are reporting an improvement in battery life (while some saying they never had any issues to begin with) there are a certain number of users who are still complaining about poor battery life post-update. When AllThingsD wrote about this issue, Apple responded to them with the following statement.
“The recent iOS software update addressed many of the battery issues that some customers experienced on their iOS 5 devices. We continue to investigate a few remaining issues.”
It's clear Apple wants to leave no stone unturned and wants to take care of this issue once and for all. You can probably expect another update soon that should take care of the remaining battery life issues on your iOS device, if any.

iPhone 4S: Tips & tricks for your new phone, iPhone 4S repair and unlock, drmobiles.co.nz

If you’re one of the million lucky souls who has spent a few minutes today tenderly lifted an iPhone 4S out of its lovingly-crafted, pearly white packaging, perhaps after spending hours in the driving rain outside an Apple Store, you might be stuck with a rather odd question: what now? Except for Siri — which, admittedly, you will be playing with for weeks to come — there really is nothing new. Yes, iOS 5 has a ton of neat features, and iCloud is awesome — but you would’ve had access to those even if you hadn’t handed over a fistful of dollars for an iPhone 4S.
There are still a few things that you can do to make the most of your new, super-fast iPhone, however.

Tell Siri who you’re related to

iOS relationshipsNo, not so that Siri can tell your wife that you’ve been saying inappropriate things to your new, cutesy assistant — but rather so that you can tell Siri to “call my wife.” Pull up Contacts, edit a contact, click Add Field, scroll down to Related People, then add yourself and your relation (see right). Alternatively, you can simply tell Siri “Mary Poppins is my wife,” “My brother is John Smith,” and so on; a much more Applesque approach, admittedly.

Set up WiFi Sync

Not only can iOS 5 devices stand alone and be activated without iTunes, but you can now sync the contents of your iPhone, iPad, or iPod via WiFi. To do this, just plug in the cable, open up iTunes, select your device from the left, and scroll down to select “Sync with this device over Wi-Fi.” You’ll be walked through a simple setup process, and that’s it.
If you want to copy large amounts of data you’ll still want to use USB, though: it’s faster, and WiFi sucks up quite a lot of battery power.

Infinity Blade IIInstall some juicy games, play them on your lounge TV

Hardware-wise, by far the most stand-out feature on the iPhone 4S is its SGX 543MP3 graphics processor: it’s seven times faster than the iPhone 4, and almost twice as fast as the next smartphone(Galaxy S II). In everyday use, though, you won’t really notice the new GPU: the whole phone will just feel a little bit snappier… Unless you install some hardcore, bleeding-edge iPhone games!
Rage HD simply flies on the iPhone 4S, and Need for Speed Hot Pursuit and Galaxy on Fire 2 are good options too. Presumably the best game that will really show off the new graphics chip is Infinity Blade II, which was demonstrated at the iPhone 4S press event — but unfortunately it won’t be available to download until December 1.
It’s worth noting that you can hook these games up to your big-screen TV by way of Apple TV andAirPlay, and while the iPhone 4S isn’t quite as powerful as a video games console, it’s getting there…

Get a cheaper SIM card

While the iPhone 4S is being advertised as a “world phone,” the situation regarding its replaceable SIM card is a little murky. According to PC Mag, it sounds like Verizon users will be able to switch out their micro-SIM for another — and Sprint customers might be able to as well. AT&T customers will be forced to use the installed SIM card.
What this means is that Verizon (and possibly Sprint) users can a) switch in a SIM that gives you cheaper international calls, and b) when you’re actually travelling around the globe with your world phone, you can use a prepaid SIM card to make cheap local calls. AT&T customers will sadly have to pay for an “international package” and then suffer through extortionate roaming costs.
Of course, if you wait until November, you’ll be able to pick up an unlocked iPhone 4S for $449. Whack in a prepaid T-Mobile SIM and off you go!
iCloud settings

Make sure iCloud is set up on your Windows or Mac PC

Finally, it goes without saying, but because it requires an update we’ll say so anyway: To take full advantage of iCloud you need to install an app on your Windows computer, or update your Mac machine to OS X 10.7.2 or later. The setup process is easy enough, but the first synchronization will take some time if you’ve taken a lot of photos and movies on your iDevice.
You may also want to customize exactly what gets uploaded to and downloaded from iCloud, which is under Settings > iCloud on your device, iCloud in System Preferences on your Mac, or iCloud in Control Panel on your Windows computer.

Apple iPhone 5 Begins Production as Hardware Details Leaked!

_iphone_5_mock_up
25 October, 2011--China Times reports that the iPhone 5 has entered a trial production phase and will feature a larger screen. Purported iPhone 5 parts have already leaked that seem to match the claim of a four-inch screen. The iPhone 5 itself is expected to have a similar form factor as the current model, with the display reaching all the way to the edge of the device.
The rendering above by Piotrek Photos shows how a larger iPhone 5 screen might compare to the current iPhone 4 display. This news comes as the New York Times has confirmed Apple is working on near-field communication (NFC) technology so that future iPhones can easily make wireless mobile payments at specially equipped cash registers. The NFC hardware would be integrated with the iPhone processor and linked directly to the owner's iTunes account.
Although Apple is working on NFC technology it's not clear whether or not the feature will make its way onto the iPhone 5. The company could be saving this functionality for a future model iPhone, as there are many different versions of the e-wallet concept currently entering the market. Competing Android phones are already getting into the act, with the Samsung Nexus S already equipped with NFC.
Other highlights of the iPhone 5 design include the switch to a metal back, much like the original iPhone. Apple could completely redesign the iPhone 5 with a curved aluminum back, to bring it more in line with the iPad 2 and recent iPod touch designs. More recent information points to a next generation device much more similar to the iPhone 4, except replacing the back glass panel with metal. A redesigned antenna would be integrated into the smartphone to help prevent the reception issues that were cited by Consumer Reports when they refused to recommend the iPhone 4.
According to China Times, the iPhone 5 is on track for a summer 2011 release. This contradicts some reports that the iPhone 5 could be delayed until September. Apple typically updates the iPhone every year in late June to early July. Plenty of time left for more rumors, leaks and speculation before an official Apple announcement.

Begun the dual-core revolution has. And there’s no scouting time – the offensive starts with the big guns. The LG Optimus 2X is not just counting on the fancy Tegra 2 name to generate the sales – it is a powerful smartphone through and through.
LG Optimus 2X LG Optimus 2X LG Optimus 2X
LG Optimus 2X official photos
The fancy camera with Full HD video recording alone is enough to bring any handset into the limelight and the fact that it’s not even the Optimus 2X key feature speaks volume. As far as hardware evolution goes, the Optimus 2X promises to be one of the biggest steps forward in the mobile phone industry.

Key features:

  • Quad-band GSM and dual-band 3G support
  • 10.2 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA
  • 4.0" 16M-color capacitive IPS LCD touchscreen of WVGA resolution (480 x 800 pixels)
  • Android OS v2.2 Froyo with LG Home launcher
  • Dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 proccessor, ULP GeForce GPU, Tegra 2 chipset
  • 512 MB RAM
  • 8 MP autofocus camera with LED flash and geotagging
  • 1080p video recording @ 24fps, 720p@30fps
  • 1.3 MP front-facing camera with videocalls
  • Wi-Fi b/g/n and DLNA
  • GPS with A-GPS, digital compass
  • 8GB internal storage and microSDslot for up to 32GB cards
  • Accelerometer, gyroscope, and proximity sensor
  • microHDMI port with HDMI mirroring
  • Standard 3.5 mm audio jack
  • Stereo FM radio with RDS
  • microUSB port (charging) and stereo Bluetooth v2.1
  • Smart dialing, voice dialing
  • DivX/XviD video support
  • Innovative gesture controls
  • Adobe Flash 10.1 support
  • Dolby Mobile and SRS sound enhancement

Main disadvantages

  • Despite similar technology LCD isn’t quite as impressive as the iPhone4 screen
  • No dedicated camera key and no lens cover
  • 1080p recording isn’t well polished
  • No Android 2.3 Gingerbread at launch
  • Audio quality is only average
  • Below average speaker loudness
There are always a few compromises necessary with modern-day smartphones, but those are brought to a minimum with the Optimus 2X. You have a relatively good display (large, too), lots of oomph under the sleek hood and an excellent snapper at the back, plus all but the kitchen sink in the connectivity department.

Or at least that’s what papers will make you believe. Our experience, however, has thought us better than blindly believing the fancy PR talk. The excellent first impression certainly helps the Optimus 2X cause, but we’ll only be able to recommend it wholeheartedly if it passes the test of a full review.

LG Optis 2X Tips and tric! Dr Mobiles Limited, 1 Huron, Street, Takapuna, North Shore, Auckland

The next step on our LG Optimus 2X tips and tricks tour is gesture controls. LG has added a choice of various tilts and taps that can make you smartphone do some serious things. It’s a pretty unique feature actually, you won’t see on every other Android smartphone.
Alright now. Let’s play!
The mysterious gestures allow you to move your cursor when entering text by simply tapping on one of the handset’s sides. Or they let you move widgets across different homescreen panes by simply tilting your phone.
You could also pause a video by simply flipping the phone over or pan around an image by tilting it one way or the other.

Apple iPhone Repair & Unlock: iOS 4.3 Unlocking Secret (Dr Mobiles Limited) Takapuna, North Shore

11-March-2011:
Ios_4_-_3
Today we were nicely surprised to see iTunes greet us with the latest iOS 4.3 software for the iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 well ahead of schedule. The update brings a handful of improvements including faster web browsing, iTunes Home sharing support, enhanced AirPlay support and, of course, the Mobile hotspot functionality.
In general, there's nothing new we didn't already know about. Nevertheless, the update is a major step forward for the devices lucky enough to get it.
We, personally, welcome the new Safari Javascript engine, which is noticeably quicker than the old one. A performance improvement is always welcome. The update also brings support for the newly released Apple Digital AV Adapter, allowing you to output 720p video to your HDTV.
Don't waste any more time, jump right ahead to your iTunes to get the download. Don't forget to share your thoughts on the iOS 4.3
